Position Overview
Skateistan South Africa is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented, and values-driven Finance and Operations Manager to join our dynamic team. This is a leadership role that ensures the smooth, compliant, and efficient functioning of our financial and operational systems as we deliver innovative education and skateboarding programs to children and youth in Johannesburg, East London and Atlantis.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Preparation, review and analysis of month close accounts
- Overseeing bookkeeping
- Preparation of monthly payroll with external payroll provider
- Preparation of the annual financial statement including review of fixed asset schedules, preparation of annual depreciation calculations
- Managing the annual audit process and liaising with auditors regarding audit queries
- Preparation of tax declaration
- Collaborating in different projects such as reviewing project budgets and financial reports, finance trainings and legal aspects regarding Skateistan South Africa
- Reaching out to tax and legal experts/advisors whenever gap identified within the organisation
- Develop and oversee annual budgets, financial planning, and cash flow management
- Establish robust financial controls, reporting systems, and audit processes
- Manage relationships with funders, donors, and financial institutions
- Ensure compliance with South African financial regulations and international donor requirements
- Lead grant writing and fundraising support activities
- Monitor program cost-effectiveness and ROI metrics
Human Resources Leadership
- Build comprehensive HR policies and procedures aligned with South African labor law
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and talent retention strategies
- Develop performance management systems and professional development programs
- Manage payroll, benefits administration, and employee relations
- Foster a positive organizational culture that reflects Skateistan's values
- Ensure workplace safety and compliance with employment equity requirements
- Prepare local employee contracts with assistance of the Executive Director
Legal & Compliance
- Oversee all legal matters including contracts, partnerships, and regulatory compliance
- Manage relationships with legal counsel and ensure proper corporate governance
- Handle insurance, risk management, and liability issues
- Ensure compliance with NPO regulations and maintain good standing with authorities
- Manage intellectual property, safeguarding policies, and data protection
Operations Management
- Streamline operational processes and implement efficiency improvements
- Oversee facility management, equipment procurement, and supply chain logistics
- Develop and maintain operational policies, procedures, and quality standards
- Coordinate with international Skateistan network on best practices and reporting
- Lead strategic planning processes and organizational development initiatives
Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA/CPA) or similar qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of senior management experience, preferably in non-profit or social impact sector
- Proven track record in financial management and budget oversight
- Strong understanding of South African business law, labor regulations, and NPO requirements
- Experience managing multi-functional teams and complex operations
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
- Strong analytical and data interpretation abilities
- Experience with grant management and donor reporting
- Knowledge of HR information systems and payroll management
- Project management and process improvement expertise

- Experience in townships or underserved community programs
